galentine's day

I am a very sceptical/pessimistic/mostly unhappy person, so it's no surprise valentines day isn't my most loved day of the year, especially as I have some unconventional views about love. I do believe that valentines day is just a commercial creation designed to bring profit to big companies, however, my grinch heart has started to come to the realisation it may be more than just that. Of course, if you're in a relationship it's a day of showing love and affection (although I think you should do that throughout the year and not just on a dedicated day). However, if you're single, I think we should take valentines day as an opportunity to take care of yourself, it should be taken as a day of artificial self-care and love. Hence, Galentine's day (not gender exclusive, just a general, punny label). Also, well aware Galentine's day stems from spending the day with your friends but like, sometimes you just don't want to do that so these suggestions have a mixture of both.

So if you're a single pringle like oneself (or even if you're not so single), here are a few simple tips/suggestions for what you could do on February 14th to show yourself some love! For best results, mix a few of them together. Or the majority of them.
  1. Buy yourself some flowers - If you're a flower fan but hardly ever buy any, treat yourself to some pretty ones to cheer yourself up
  2. Dance around the house to some old bomb tunes to remind yourself you're fab - You look good all the time anyway, so what's to say you won't look good dancing around the house in your PJ's to Dilemma by Kelly Rowland/Nelly?
  3. Face, film, fast food - Grab your favourite face mask, pop on a decent film and buy yourself a valentine's day pizza from Domino's (they will probably have a deal on). A girls night in, either alone or with your fellow singleton's
  4. Throw a Galentine's day party - Drinks, food and some class music for the fellow single people/those with partners out of town. The perfect way to get drunk and not feel lonely this valentine's day
  5. Online shopping - Right, if you were in a relationship you'd have to spend money on a present anyway so you might as well just buy yourself one. That new dress you were after or that brand new makeup product, if someone else isn't going to treat you, treat yourself
  6. Have a bath - A chill bath. A Lush bath bomb, candle and hot chocolate type of bath. A hair mask that you forget to do normally during the week bath. An eating mac n cheese and putting rose petals in the bath for yourself sort of bath. You get what I mean
  7. Take the day off - By this I mean stop doing work or stop forgetting about your troubles for a day and just chill, sometimes you need a day away from social media and the real world just to keep yourself grounded
  8. Spa day - Very helpful for the tip above, and if you can find a fellow single friend that wants to go along even better! Valentine's day couple specials make it a whole lot cheaper
  9. The little things - Grab yourself that full fat, high-calorie doughnut before work. Have a glass of wine with your lunch. Take a taxi instead of driving so you can go for a drink after work. The little things may help you the most
  10. Mediate or masturbate - Relax yourself. Try meditating or masturbating. That's all I have to say about that one
  11. Go on a first date or have a booty call - Unless you want to have sex on a first date (who cares) a booty call is ideal for spending the night getting intimate. If not, just go on a regular first date with someone. All those couples in the restaurant having dinner might make you feel a little closer (also, valentine's day special offers!)
  12. Tick something off your bucket list or make one (then tick something off)- Whilst everyone else is with their significant other, you could be going to that chocolate museum (is that a thing?) you've always wanted to go to or look around that contemporary art gallery everyone else thinks is weird. What better time than to tick off your bucket list?
  13. Get drunk and cry - May not sound like the best suggestion but sometimes crying makes everything better. Drink a bottle of wine, eat a whole tub of ice cream, pop on some sad songs and have a cry about how single you are
  14. Go about your normal day and wait for February 15th- Discounted chocolate. Do I have to say anymore?
Whatever you are doing this valentine's day, make sure you have a bomb time. You deserve it!

  2. I buy myself flowers all the time as a treat, I love it! I also LOVE the idea of spending the money you would have spent on a present on yourself, I'm definitely going to be using that excuse!

  3. Great ideas - it's soo lovely and relaxing having a night in with a face mask on watching a film! I do agree with you though, it definitely seems more commercial now with Valentine's Day, but it's still a nice day to spend with my boyfriend. We don't really go all out - we do have a meal together, watch a film together and get each other a cute card kinda thing!

  6. Galentines day?! Pun of the year! I actually like valentines best when I'm single because I just see it as a chance to pamper myself and like you said, save money, I used to hate spending my money on shit in the name of 'love'. I have a bottle of rose ready and waiting for a night with my favourite person: me of course!

missing: madeline mccaan (theory)

Typically, the true crime posts I write such as The Beaumont Children or Who Put Bella In The Wych Elm? are factually based posts with (what I hope) is a high level of objectivity.  However, I was requested to discuss my theory on the Madeline McCann case so this Missing/Unsolved will be opinionated.

I have decided not to go into extensive detail about her disappearance, although I will give you the basic facts and discuss the reasons behind my theory whilst talking about it. Her case is one of the most publicised in the world, so I believe most people will have knowledge of her disappearance that does not require me to write about it. If you are not familiarised with it, you can read about Madeleine McCann here.

Quick disclaimer: I am in no way stating that this is definitely what happened to Madeline, nor am I claiming to have any personal factual evidence regarding what happened to her. Regardless of what happened to her, a little girl is still gone and family members deserve to k…

dewy summer-glam

Right, so my makeup is not the best the whole year round as it is, so summer for me is a dreaded period. Matte products make my skin look too dry, the sweat emphasises the texture and makes my makeup run and the heat just makes me melt. By the end of the day, I look like a wax figure out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the scene where they set on fire, I don't remember being in the film but I am sure you can see me in one or two parts. However, I think I have nearly cracked the code. I am not quite there yet, I think I have to sort out my base and my setting portion of the makeup, however, I have some products that make me look like a semi-glamorous goddess regardless of the heat. Positively, I am not a full coverage type of gal at any point and I barely wear glam makeup which is why I am hardly bothered, but I do have a glam combination for those events where I have to look more done up. I've been watching some tutorials and reading some blogs all about makeup, so I …

*is online dating for you?

(*This post has kindly been sponsored by Digital Dudes LTD, however, all opinions/views are completely my own!)
The world is a big place, and the online world is even bigger. In my last post, I discussed online dating as a way to look for love as well as other platforms you could use to find that special someone, or even someone that is not that special (depending on which you wish to find). Today, I want to talk about if online dating could work for you or whether or not an alternative way of looking for connections would be better for you.

As I have mentioned beforehand, online dating is a fabulous way to connect with a range of new people for a range of different reasons. It allows you to gain more confidence, to get a feel for the person before you meet and to find people with similar interests to yourself. However, you do have to consider whether or not you think it is for you. Especially as there is a range of positives and negatives to talking to people online. It is important …
